General

We offer a completely bespoke service. Each order that we receive is individually processed, the tiles being each handmade and unique to you. As part of the process each tile is also therefore glazed and decorated to your specific requirements. To order your tiles click on the 'Contact'  at the top right of any  page. Make a note of each of the codes for the designs that you would like us to make for you, along with all other specific information and we will contact you directly to discuss your order. Don't forget to include a contact number if you would like us to call you in person.

Please Note:  All of our products are individually handmade resulting in slight variations and irregularities in size, colours and other forms of appearance. These aspects contribute to their beauty and individuality, setting them apart from factory made tiles, which are very uniform. None of these irregularities are defects.   

Glazes and tiles may vary slightly from one batch to the next so it is always wise to order enough tiles for your situation. We recommend that a 5% contingency is added onto the total number of your tile order.

Samples

Our website will give you an accurate idea of our glaze and decorating colours. If you need to see the qualities of our tiles before you place your order, we suggest that you request whole sample tiles. These will be charged at the current price plus any additional development costs, plus postage and packaging.

Applications

Our tiles can be used in any number of situations indoors, especially in kitchens and bathrooms, for fireplaces, conservatories and hallways too. As murals and plaques they make exciting and unique features in exterior architectural settings and gardens. Some tiles are additionally suitable for floor areas.

It is important to tell us where it is that you intend to place your tiles, we can then advise you on their suitability, and use the appropriate materials and processes. Make sure that you employ an experienced and qualified tile fitter to install your tiles.

The Design Process

For special decorative and other bespoke commissions we will normally begin with pencil sketches or mockups, for which there may be a design charge depending on how much time needs to be spent on research etc. In some situations, especially larger murals, a visit to the site is recommended, as the setting can determine important elements of design. Accurate measurements (after rendering) of the area to be tiled are very important. Once our initial designs are approved, a coloured drawing to scale is usually produced. The charge for this will usually vary between £50 and £70. This may be charged separately or incorporated into the final quotation. Other design charges start at £50 per hour, £60 inc VAT at the current rate .

Delivery

We can provide a quote for delivery and shipping anywhere in the world. For the UK and Europe we normally use a courier service. For smaller orders for the USA we use well known international services. If you have your own FedEx or other account it may be cheaper to use this than our own UK based account. Larger orders are packed onto pallets and will generally take about one week for European destinations and up to 10 days for the USA, (airfreight). A usual packing charge will be applied in most cases. This can be quoted for. Our prices do not include delivery or shipping costs.

Payment

A written order (email, fax or letter) is required along with a deposit payment of 50% of the total cost. The final and full balance is due before dispatch of the goods. Payment can be made by cheque, bank transfer or Credit/Debit card. We can accept no responsibility for loss or damage of products once they leave the studio. Returns are only accepted if proof of defects are shown to have been ours.

Most orders can usually be completed within 4 to 6 weeks, larger orders may take longer, this will be quoted on request.

Terms and Conditions 

A full copy of our Terms and conditions can be either posted or sent by email.  The following is a summary of some important points.

1. No returns are accepted on decorated tiles, returns of excess plain tiles can only be accepted at our discretion and must be in good order.

2. The Douglas Watson Studio shall not be liable for any shortage or for any failure of the goods to comply with the buyers specification or for any defect in the condition of the goods unless written claim is given to the Seller within three days of receipt of the goods. Returns  will only be accepted if the Seller is able to examine the goods.

3. The Studio must be notified in writing within three days of delivery of any damage or breakages.

4.   Due to the nature of handmade tiles we cannot guarantee complete consistency in size thickness and colour.  Any samples sent out are only indications as to the character of the goods.

5.   Orders can only be undertaken with written confirmation and payment of 50% deposit.

6.   Full payment must be received before delivery.
